Denim Days

In Italy 1999, the National High Court overturned a rape case because the victim was wearing jeans and it was thought that jeans would have been too tight to pull off without the woman’s consent. The ruling sparked a nationwide protest where anti-rape activists wore jeans.

In 2011, following a two-day denim art display on Norlin Quad April 11th and 12th, the students marched from Gates Woodruff Cottage to Farrand Field where they held a speaker event and rally, including a poetry-slam. This event featured Men Standing Up from the organization Moving to End Sexual Assualt. On this day, the participants wore denim and a Denim Day button to show their support in ending sexual assault on our campus as well as in our community.

If you are passionate about combating sexual assault, create a compelling message or image on a patch of denim or pair of jeans, and display your artwork in the Quad. The artwork will also be used as a backdrop for Denim Day on April 13th. Drop off your decorated patches or jeans to the Gates Woodruff Cottage by noon on Friday, April 8th.
