LGBTQ Politics in Haiti Before and After the Earthquake, with Erin Durban-Albrecht

This presentation offers a transnational feminist analysis of gender and sexual politics in Haiti from 2008-2012, with particular attention to the context of ongoing U.S. intervention. The talk will include details about what these politics mean for LGBTQ Haitians who are organizing for social change as well as what Americans can do to work in solidarity with grassroots organizers in Haiti.

Erin Durban-Albrecht is a PhD candidate in gender & women’s studies and cultural anthropology at the University of Arizona and managing editor of Feminist Formations, an academic journal in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. She has been researching gender and sexual politics in Haiti and its diaspora since 2004.
