WGST Library Collection
Helen Carpenter Reading RoomWhen Cottage #1 was originally built in 1884, the first floor housed a large kitchen and dining hall that could seat 100 people. When the Cottage was renovated in the 1990′s this space was remade into a Reading Room, to provide a gathering space for students, and to house our Library Collection. This special space was named to honor Helen Carpenter (1900 – 1995), who attended CU from 1918 – 1922, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in English Language. She went on to work at CU in a variety of roles, serving the University for a total of 46 years, and retiring as Director of the Placement Service office in 1968. Our Library houses an extensive collection of books and journals relating to Women and Gender Studies. Materials are only for use inside the Reading Room. Library hours are 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday.
The Reading Room was originally the campus dining hall
